Fumed Silica for Powder Coatings | Flowability & Anti-Caking Agent
Dry-Blend Optimization

High-Performance Fumed Silica for Powder Coatings

Precision flowability and storage stability. Our hydrophilic fumed silica acts as a physical nano-barrier between resin particles, preventing clumping and ensuring flawless electrostatic application.

Hydrophilic fumed silica for powder coatings to enhance dry-blend flowability and electrostatic spraying efficiency

Ultimate Free-Flow

Reduce friction. Our product is recognized as the best fumed silica for powder coating free flow, acting as nano-ball bearings that allow dry powder to move like a liquid during processing.

Effective Anti-Caking

Protect against humidity. Storage in warm conditions often leads to sintering. Our silica serves as a highly efficient anti-caking agent for powder coatings, maintaining a dry, flowable state long-term.

Superior Fluidization

Steady spray delivery. Using SEMITECH as a fluidization aid silica ensures a consistent "boiling" effect in the fluid bed, leading to pulse-free powder delivery to the electrostatic spray gun.

Optimized 200 BET

Maximum coverage efficiency. Our hydrophilic fumed silica 200 BET offers the perfect balance—providing enough surface area to coat resin particles without causing excessive dusting or handling issues.

Powder Coating FAQ

Solutions for flowability, storage, and electrostatic spray challenges.

Why is fumed silica necessary for electrostatic powder spraying?

Without a fluidization aid silica, powder particles tend to clump due to mechanical friction and static. Our fumed silica coats the resin, improving chargeability and ensuring the powder flows smoothly through the hoses to the gun without surging.

How much fumed silica should be added to a powder formulation?

Typically, addition levels range from 0.2% to 0.5% by weight. It is best added during the dry-blending stage (post-extrusion) to ensure the silica aggregates are distributed on the surface of the ground powder particles.

Can hydrophilic silica prevent powder "sintering" in hot climates?

Yes. As a high-performance anti-caking agent for powder coatings, SEMISIL creates a physical spacer between resin particles. This prevents them from fusing together (sintering) when exposed to high ambient temperatures during shipping or storage.

Does 200 BET fumed silica affect the final film's orange peel or gloss?

When used at recommended levels, hydrophilic fumed silica 200 BET has zero negative impact on film leveling or gloss. In fact, by improving the uniformity of the powder application, it often helps achieve a smoother, more consistent finish.

Should I use hydrophilic or hydrophobic silica for powder coatings?

For most standard epoxy, polyester, and hybrid powders, hydrophilic fumed silica is the industry standard for free-flow. However, for powders used in extremely high-humidity environments, our hydrophobic grades can provide additional moisture protection.
