HMMAT 101.

Untreated silica matting agent, d50 3.5–4 µm. Fine texture for thin-film solvent-borne coatings. Grace ED2/Syloid 244 equivalent. HMMAT OEM supply from Henan Minmetals East.

HMMAT 101 is the finest-particle grade in the untreated HMMAT silica matting agent range, with d50 3.5–4 µm and porosity ≥1.8 ml/g. The small particle size delivers controlled gloss reduction with minimal impact on film transparency in thin-film systems (DFT 20–50 µm), making it the preferred choice for clearcoats, lacquers, and overprint varnishes where optical clarity alongside matting is required. Being surface-treatment-free, HMMAT 101 carries no organic modifier that could interfere with UV-cure kinetics or recoatability in multi-layer systems. It is the direct OEM equivalent of Grace Syloid 244.

Key Features

  • Finest Particle in the 100 Series: d50 3.5–4 µm provides the smoothest film texture at equivalent loading vs coarser grades (103, 106), with less risk of surface roughness in thin films.
  • Untreated — Zero Wax Contamination: No organic surface modifier; no risk of inter-coat adhesion failure, wax bloom, or inhibition of UV photoinitiators.
  • High Porosity: ≥1.8 ml/g porosity ensures strong retention in the wet film and consistent gloss-reduction efficiency batch to batch.
  • Broad Resin Compatibility: Compatible with alkyd, polyurethane, polyester, acrylic, and epoxy solvent-borne systems without the wetting limitations of treated grades.
  • OEM FCL Supply: 10 kg bags, FCL volumes (20 MT), private-label packaging available.

Applications

  • Clearcoats and Lacquers (DFT 20–40 µm): 3–6% loading for satin to matte finish in nitrocellulose, acrylic, and polyurethane clearcoats; fine particle size avoids surface roughness in thin films.
  • Overprint Varnishes: 2–5% in OPV for packaging and labels where optical clarity and controlled gloss are both required.
  • UV-Cure Coatings: Compatible with acrylate UV systems — no surface treatment to scatter UV or consume photoinitiators; 3–7% loading for matte UV wood and plastic coatings.
  • Coil Coatings: 2–4% in high-speed coil coat lines where consistent particle size prevents die-line streaking.

When to Choose HMMAT 101 vs Alternatives

HMMAT 101 is the right choice when DFT is below 50 µm and film smoothness must be preserved alongside matting. For thicker films (DFT 50–80 µm) where a coarser texture is acceptable, HMMAT 103 (d50 4–4.5 µm) offers similar chemistry at slightly lower cost. For scratch and mar resistance alongside matting, HMMAT 205 (organic-treated, d50 4.5–5 µm) is preferred. Against Grace Syloid 244 or Evonik Acematt fine-grade equivalents, HMMAT 101 delivers the same specification at a 25–40% lower landed cost on FCL volumes.
