Untreated silica matting agent, d50 4–4.5 µm. Standard untreated grade for solvent-borne coatings. Grace Syloid ED2/C803 · Evonik Acematt HP230 equivalent.

HMMAT 103 is the standard untreated grade in the HMMAT silica matting agent range, with d50 4–4.5 µm and porosity ≥1.8 ml/g. Positioned between the fine-particle HMMAT 101 and the coarser HMMAT 106, it covers the broadest range of solvent-borne coating DFT targets (30–70 µm) with consistent matting efficiency and clean, wax-free chemistry. Untreated SiO₂ ≥99% ensures zero inter-coat adhesion penalty and full compatibility with UV-cure, baking-enamel, and two-component crosslink chemistries. It is the direct equivalent of Grace Syloid ED2/C803 and Evonik Acematt HP230, supplied by Henan Minmetals East in 10 kg bags on FCL terms.

Applications

  • Furniture and Wood Coatings (DFT 30–60 µm): 4–8% in solvent-borne PU or NC topcoats for satin to matte finishes.
  • Industrial Topcoats: 3–6% in alkyd or epoxy industrial topcoats; untreated chemistry avoids adhesion issues at primer/topcoat interfaces.
  • Leather Finishes: 2–5% in polyurethane leather topcoats; wax-free surface ensures no migration on flexible substrates.
  • Baking Enamels: 2–4% in thermosetting melamine-alkyd or polyester baking enamels; clean burnoff (LOI ≤6%) meets food-contact compliance.

When to Choose HMMAT 103 vs Alternatives

HMMAT 103 is the standard selection for solvent-borne DFT 30–70 µm systems requiring untreated chemistry. For thinner films (below 30 µm), use HMMAT 101 (d50 3.5–4 µm) for a smoother texture. For scratch resistance alongside matting, use HMMAT 205 (organic-treated, d50 4.5–5 µm). Against Grace Syloid ED2/C803 or Evonik Acematt HP230, HMMAT 103 offers 25–40% lower landed cost on FCL volumes.
